5 Things to Say to Your Kids Every Day

Message from Coach Thompson

Remember Gratitude as We Re-open

As we begin to reopen athletics here in July, let us remember to have an attitude of gratitude. Some school corporations are allowing teams to play games; some conditioning; some just two days a week throughout July. There are big time variances in what corporations are allowing teams to do, but one thing that I have quickly come to realize is that I am going to approach July with an attitude of gratitude and thankfulness that we can get back into the gym.

After the way that last season ended, I will never take another single day in the gym with our guys for granted. There are all kinds of protocols and hoops we have to jump through to make things happen in July, but one thing is for sure, you won’t hear this coach complaining.

Trying to put things together in the middle of the summer is something that I have never done before. Getting information to players and parents last minute is not the way that I do business. It has been frustrating at times, especially when trying to reach out to our incoming freshman, many of whom do not have phones, and keep everyone up to date with what we have going on. It’s been tough when things have shifted from the state and our administration, but being flexible is the name of the game right now.

Again, I am just thankful that as of July 6th - we get to get back in the gym with our guys and that is something I will be forever grateful for. You won’t hear this guy get upset about any restrictions because I am just thankful that I will get to hear the bouncing of a ball in a gym again.

Legacy

Ready

“For I know the plans I have for you”—this is the LORD’s declaration—“plans for your welfare, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” — Jeremiah 29:11

Set

Maybe you’ve heard the statement, “Tradition never graduates.” One of the keys to leaving a legacy is to treasure the past and the memories of our “founding fathers” whose shoulders we have stood upon. We must appreciate the important role that others have played in our lives.

While drawing strength from our past, we must also stay focused on a vision for our future. If we want to stay on the cutting edge of fruitful kingdom living, we must constantly review our ministry commitments, learn from our past experiences, and seek the best advice from others—all while humbly praying for God’s Spirit to guide us. To become more effective, coaches must also skillfully balance time and  resources while carefully planning for the future.

1. What legacy are you leaving for others to treasure?
2. What changes need to be made in your life to reach your destiny in Christ Jesus?
